The St. Andrew's Residences
Seniors Affordable Housing
The St. Andrew's residence began in the year 2000 with a small group of curious people from St. Andrew's who wondered if there was a need for affordable housing for seniors in Georgetown. Shortly after an initial meeting and under the leadership of Rev. Ross Leckie, minister of St. Andrew's at the time, a Seniors' Housing committee was set up. This committee did statistical research through agency and community organizations and it was very clear that affordable housing was in fact in high need. St. Andrew's saw this as an outreach opportunity for the community.
St. Andrew's was fortunate to own some land adjacent to our current church building and as a congregation it was decided that we could offer some land to build a Seniors' apartment building. Throughout the 2000's many congregational and community meetings were held and government grant money was secured to develop and build the structure. The ground was broken in May of 2009 and it took nearly 2 years to complete. The 53 unit apartment building now is built on the property, connected to the church.
